About the Parliament of India
The Parliament of India is the Union’s supreme legislative institution and consists of the President, the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Its responsibilities include making laws, authorising public expenditure, scrutinising government and representing the people and states of India. Parliamentary committees examine legislation, expenditure and administration in greater detail. The institution also preserves a rich constitutional and documentary record of India’s democratic development. Parliament House therefore represents both a functioning centre of national decision-making and a symbol of constitutional government.
